China and Africa Expand Their Eco Partnership
Debra John — November 22, 2025China and Africa highlighted their expanding environmental cooperation at the Global South Media and Think Tank Forum China-Africa Partnership Conference held in Johannesburg, South Africa. During the opening ceremony’s 'Global South Talks,' representatives from several countries discussed joint sustainability initiatives, with a particular emphasis on renewable energy and ecological development.
A key example presented was the 'Longyuan De Aar Wind Power Project' in South Africa’s Northern Cape Province. Launched in 2013, the project "serves as a flagship model of China–Africa clean-energy collaboration, supplying reliable, emissions-free electricity sufficient to meet the annual needs of approximately 300,000 households." Its long-term operation has reduced dependence on fossil fuels, supported regional energy stability, and contributed to the transition toward low-carbon growth.
In addition to its environmental impact, the project has advanced community resilience through technical training programs, educational facility upgrades, and capacity-building initiatives that strengthen local participation in the renewable-energy sector.
