Off-Grid Solar Access Partnerships
Sun King Partnered with Nigeria’s REA to Expand Solar Access
Colin Smith — November 5, 2025Sun King and Nigeria’s Rural Electrification Agency (REA) have strengthened their partnership to expand off‑grid energy access and support local solar manufacturing capacity. The collaboration focuses on deploying distributed solar home systems and productive‑use solutions in underserved areas while coordinating on distribution networks, subsidy mechanisms, and last‑mile logistics to increase household and small‑business electrification rates. Program activities are structured to align device deployment with community needs and to integrate monitoring frameworks that track service uptake and system reliability.
The partnership also emphasises local industry development by promoting in‑country assembly, skills training, and supplier development to build a more resilient solar value chain. Joint initiatives include capacity‑building for installers and technical staff, pilot projects to demonstrate scalable business models, and measures to strengthen after‑sales service and spare‑parts availability, with the objective of improving the sustainability and economic impact of rural electrification efforts.
