Green Mini-Grid Expansion Programs

The SOGREA initiative has launched a €22 million investment facility to accelerate deployment of green mini‑grids in Sierra Leone, targeting rural electrification and off‑grid communities through concessional financing and project development support. The facility is structured to mobilise private and public capital for construction, operation, and maintenance of renewable energy mini‑grids, and includes technical assistance to de‑risk projects, standardise contracts, and build local developer capacity.

Operational objectives for the programme emphasise rapid scaling of distributed renewable generation, improving energy access and reliability, and creating local economic opportunities through construction and long‑term operation roles for community stakeholders. The initiative also aims to integrate mini‑grids with national electrification plans, promote gender‑inclusive hiring and training practices, and establish performance metrics for affordability and service continuity to track social and economic impact over time.
