Sizable Battery Storage Projects
Sungrow and ENGIE Make Strives in Belgium with a New Facility
Kalin Ned — October 14, 2025Sungrow and the energy company ENGIE have successfully activated the initial segment of a large-scale battery storage project in Vilvoorde, Belgium. This first phase represents a capacity of 400 megawatt-hours, with a subsequent phase planned to bring the facility's total capacity to 800 megawatt-hours. The battery storage project is, thus, poised to be the most substantial installation of its kind on the European mainland.
The Sungrow x ENGIE system utilizes liquid-cooled battery units provided by Sungrow, which are noted for their compact physical design. The primary function of this installation is to support the regional electrical grid by storing surplus energy generated from renewable sources and then supplying that power during periods of high demand. This process is intended to enhance the stability of the electricity supply and facilitate the broader integration of clean energy into the existing power infrastructure.
