Large-Scale Solar Power Plants
Shanghai Electric Completes the Oman Manah-1 Solar IPP Project
Debra John — August 15, 2025Shanghai Electric has successfully completed the 'Oman Manah-1 Solar IPP Project,' the first large-scale solar power plant in Oman. With an installed capacity of 500 megawatts, the facility has entered full commercial operation following the completion of all assessments and the final handover, achieving one month of stable, uninterrupted performance.
As a flagship initiative "under the Oman Vision 2040 national strategy for environmental sustainability and clean energy, the project is expected to produce approximately 1.5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually." This renewable output will significantly reduce the country’s reliance on fossil fuels, cutting carbon dioxide emissions by "an estimated 780,000 tons per year; the environmental benefit is equivalent to removing roughly 170,000 gasoline-powered vehicles from the road."
The Oman Manah-1 project demonstrates the strategic role of large-scale solar installations in advancing national decarbonization goals, diversifying the energy mix, and supporting a sustainable future for Oman.
