Coastal Public Park Concepts
LandLAB + SCAPE Debuts the Te Ara Tukutuku Concept
Kalin Ned — January 19, 2026The design consortium LandLAB + SCAPE is the creator behind Te Ara Tukutuku, a conceptual plan for a new coastal public park on a five-hectare site in Auckland.
LandLAB + SCAPE's urban design initiative aims to rehabilitate a formerly industrial waterfront area into an ecologically and culturally significant open space. The plan is guided by Indigenous Māori principles and knowledge. The Te Ara Tukutuku coastal public park vision incorporates natural features like a regenerating forest, marine restoration zones, community structures for traditional canoes, and educational areas. All of these amenities are framed within a landscape architecture intended to symbolically and physically reconnect the city with its harbor.
The project's focus on regenerative ecology, carbon-conscious design, and habitat restoration addresses growing public concern about climate resilience and biodiversity loss.
