Regenerative Cocoa Farm Programs
Mars and ofi Have Partnered on Regenerative Cocoa Farming
Adam Harrie — April 28, 2026Mars and ofi have announced a five-year initiative to bring regenerative cocoa farming practices to more than 960 farmers across six growing regions in Ecuador, covering over 9,000 hectares. The program aims to transition farms from single-crop, sun-grown production to agroforestry systems that mimic natural forest ecosystems, improving soil health, boosting production and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Farmers will gain access to low-carbon fertilizers, applications of biochar and improved crop residue management. Around 4,800 people in nearby cocoa-growing communities in Ecuador are also expected to benefit from the investments over the program's lifespan.
Mars and ofi show how combining shared net-zero targets with practical, farm-centered tools can make regenerative agriculture a feasible path rather than an aspiration.
