Sustainable Aviation Fuel Agreements
Flying Forest Comes into an Agreement with ATOBA Energy
Kalin Ned — January 6, 2026Flying Forest, a company developing a new production facility in Finland, and ATOBA Energy, which acts as a specialized intermediary to sell this fuel to airlines, have entered into a preliminary commercial agreement. The focus falls on increasing the supply of a lower-carbon alternative to conventional jet fuel. The long-term SAF offtake agreement is said to "support Flying Forest's groundbreaking project in Finland while advancing ATOBA's mission to bridge the gap between SAF producers and airlines."
Flying Forest's facility aims to convert a substantial volume of local forestry by-products — materials like sawmill residues and non-commercial wood that would otherwise have limited use — into sustainable aviation fuel using a methanol-based process. With a target output of 200,000 tons annually, this represents a meaningful contribution to a market where supply is currently extremely limited.
