Genomatica and Sojitz have announced a partnership to help accelerate the commercialization of nylon-6, which is positioned as the world's first plant-based nylon material. The proprietary material from Genomatica is reported to be made with a 100% renewable, carbon-based composition to provide an alternative to the oil-derived original for a sustainability edge. The partnership will see Sojitz lending its commercial and business expertise as a means of accelerating the time-to-market strategy.

CEO of Genomatia John Gugel commented on the Genomatica and Sojitz partnership saying, "Through this collaboration with Sojitz, we’re advancing our mission to enable cost-competitive production of plant-based nylon-6 at industrial scale...Our collaboration with Sojitz and our other existing partners aims to accelerate commercialization of Geno’s breakthrough technology to provide consumers, and the major brands who serve them, with high-performance materials that are produced from traceable and renewable sources of carbon.”
