JOCO and WALTER have launched a community-based e-mobility recycling program aimed at addressing the environmental impacts of last-mile delivery systems in New York City. The initiative focuses on the responsible recycling of e-mobility components, including e-bike parts and batteries, which are often difficult to manage through conventional waste streams. By establishing dedicated processes for safe collection and recycling, the program supports improved material recovery and reduced environmental risk associated with e-mobility waste.

The program is structured as a collaborative model between JOCO, an urban e-mobility platform, and WALTER (Working And Learning Together Environmental Recycling), a Brooklyn-based social enterprise. Recycling operations are integrated across JOCO’s warehouse and fleet facilities throughout the city, creating a localized system for managing e-mobility waste.

In addition to its environmental objectives, the initiative incorporates workforce development goals. The program generates paid employment opportunities for young adults in underserved communities, particularly in Brownsville, supporting skills development while aligning environmental sustainability with social impact.
