Municipal Battery Projects
Lightshift Has Added Six Battery Storage Systems in Massachusetts
Adam Harrie — June 22, 2026Lightshift Energy announced six new municipal battery storage projects across Massachusetts light departments in Georgetown, Ipswich, Groton, Princeton, Ashburnham and Marblehead, adding more than 23MW of capacity to its statewide portfolio. The projects are expected to deliver more than $90 million in lifetime savings for participating utilities and their ratepayers through peak shaving, charging during low-cost off-peak hours and discharging during periods of high electricity demand.
The battery systems will help municipal utilities reduce energy procurement costs while improving grid flexibility and resilience. The projects further expand Lightshift Energy's presence in Massachusetts, where energy storage is playing an increasingly important role in managing electricity costs and supporting renewable energy integration.
Lightshift Energy shows how municipal-scale battery storage can generate meaningful savings for communities while strengthening local energy infrastructure.
