Energy Dome & Google Brought Its Long-Duration Energy Storage to Ireland

Energy Dome and Google announced their first bilateral commercial contract for a 23MW/200MWh long-duration energy storage project in County Offaly, Ireland. The project will deploy Energy Dome's CO₂ Battery technology to compress and store CO₂ using grid power, then release it through a turbine to generate electricity on demand. It follows a similar 19MW/200MWh deployment in Arizona announced earlier this month with Salt River Project.

Located at a former peat-fired power plant near abundant solar and wind resources that are currently curtailed, the project will relieve local grid congestion and support Ireland's target of 80% renewable electricity by 2030.

The project shows how CO₂-based storage is emerging as a scalable, materials-light alternative to lithium-ion batteries for unlocking stranded renewable energy.
