Econergy Closed Deal for Dalmarnock Battery Energy Storage Project

Econergy has reached financial close on the Dalmarnock battery energy storage system in Scotland, a 40 MW / 120 MWh project financed with £21 million from Santander UK. The transaction includes a long term optimisation and operational services agreement with EDF to manage dispatch and revenue stacking across wholesale and ancillary markets. Announced in late January 2026, the project is structured as a standalone battery energy storage system with five hours of equivalent duration.

The Dalmarnock asset is presented as a demonstration of standalone storage bankability when paired with an experienced optimisation partner. Its five hour duration supports longer duration shifting of energy, frequency response, and peak shaving to aid renewable integration and grid stability. For investors and lenders the deal provides a reference case for project finance of BESS assets. For system operators and policymakers the project adds dispatchable capacity that can be scheduled to address variability from wind and solar. For developers and operators the transaction illustrates a pathway from development to operational ownership using third party optimisation to enhance revenue predictability.
