Fotowatio Renewable Ventures is Targeting UK Energy Expansions
Colin Smith — November 18, 2025Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV) has submitted a portfolio of projects totalling approximately 1.8 GW of combined solar generation and battery energy storage systems (BESS) to the United Kingdom’s connection reform process under NESOS Gate 2. The package is positioned to secure grid connection capacity released by the reform and to advance project development across multiple sites in the UK, with an emphasis on co-located solar plus storage configurations that enable time-shifting of renewable output and improved capacity value. FRV’s submission reflects a development strategy that pairs utility-scale photovoltaic arrays with grid-scale batteries to deliver both energy and system services, and to manage intermittency while supporting peak demand periods.
The company’s targets align with broader industry efforts to accelerate renewable capacity additions and to leverage connection reform mechanisms to reduce lead times for large projects. FRV’s approach includes standard development activities such as securing land agreements, finalizing permitting and consenting, arranging offtake or merchant routes, and progressing technical studies required for firm connection offers. If progressed through NESOS Gate 2 and subsequent connection allocation steps, the projects would contribute to regional decarbonization targets, augment late-day generation capacity through stored dispatch, and increase operational flexibility for network operators managing higher shares of variable generation.
