Microplastic-Reducing Textile Fibers

Microplastic-reducing textile fibers are expanding across home and hospitality products as manufacturers seek ways to address pollution associated with synthetic materials. Intrinsic Advanced Materials is broadening the commercial reach of its CiCLO technology through collaborations with ADVANSA and HeiQ. Integrated into polyester and nylon during manufacturing, CiCLO creates pathways designed to accelerate biodegradation when shed microplastic fibers enter environments containing moisture and microorganisms.

ADVANSA is incorporating the technology into its Suprelle fiberfill for bedding and hospitality applications, while HeiQ is exploring combinations with cooling, moisture management, odor control and allergen-reduction technologies. The partnerships demonstrate how environmental material features can be incorporated without sacrificing performance attributes consumers expect from textiles. For manufacturers, the expanded applications provide opportunities to differentiate bedding, apparel and hospitality products while addressing concerns around persistent microplastic pollution. Broader adoption could also help CiCLO scale its technology through established textile supply chains.
