The Northants Litter Wombles Debut a Second Reverse Vending Machine
Kanesa D — April 10, 2026A community litter-picking group has expanded its recycling efforts with the installation of a second reverse vending machine in Northamptonshire, rewarding consumers for returning used cans and bottles.
The Northants Litter Wombles introduced the new unit at Weston Favell Shopping Centre in partnership with installer Trovr, building on the success of its first machine at the University of Northampton. Since late 2025, the initial site has processed over 1,000 containers.
The initiative aligns with a broader deposit return model, where consumers receive redeemable value for returning empty drink containers to designated collection points.
"It's only two machines, but the message it sends shows people this [DRS] is coming and a lot of litter that's on the streets ends up in drains and in rivers and out in the sea, so it's going to stop all of that," Watson added.
