Locally-Assembled EVs

Angola's OPAIA Motors Showcased its EV Portfiolio in Muxima

Angola’s OPAIA Motors deployed locally assembled electric vehicles during the Papal visit to Muxima, demonstrating the country’s growing capacity in domestic electric mobility manufacturing. According to the report, the company supplied four electric vehicles to support technical and security logistics for the event, following inspections at its manufacturing facility to ensure operational readiness. The deployment highlighted the role of local industry in meeting transport needs for large public gatherings while showcasing the reliability of Angola’s emerging electric vehicle production capabilities.

The initiative aligns with Angola’s broader industrial diversification strategy, which emphasizes reducing dependence on imports and expanding domestic manufacturing. OPAIA Motors’ facility represents a significant investment, with capacity to assemble 22,000 light vehicles and 1,000 buses annually and plans to grow its workforce from 1,500 to 3,500 employees. The report notes that such developments contribute to job creation, skills development, and the growth of supplier networks, supporting long‑term economic resilience. The use of electric vehicles during the pilgrimage also reflects increasing interest across Africa in sustainable transport solutions as countries work to reduce emissions and modernize mobility systems.
