Sustainable Biomass Plant Partnerships
RDM Group Partnered with Paques Biomaterials on New Plant
Colin Smith — November 4, 2025RDM Group and Paques Biomaterials have formed a partnership to develop a full-scale production facility for polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA), a family of biodegradable biopolymers produced from renewable biomass. The collaboration combines RDM Group’s project development and industrial-scale engineering capabilities with Paques Biomaterials’ microbial fermentation and downstream-processing expertise to establish a plant intended to demonstrate commercial-scale PHA manufacturing and validate process economics, scalability, and product quality for packaging and other applications.
The planned facility aims to close material loops by converting organic feedstocks into a biodegradable polymer suitable for replacing conventional plastics in selected markets, with an emphasis on lifecycle performance and regulatory compliance. Project activities outlined by the partners include pilot validation, detailed engineering, supply‑chain development for sustainable feedstock sourcing, and engagement with potential offtake partners to secure market pathways for the produced PHA, with the objective of advancing commercial adoption of bio-based, compostable alternatives to fossil-derived polymers.
