Supply Chain Emissions Tracking

SouthStar Energy Services is initiating a trial of a novel data analysis tool for supply chain emission tracking. MethaneScout™ was developed by the certification body MiQ and is designed to map and evaluate greenhouse gas emissions across the entire natural gas supply network. This pilot program represents an early adoption effort within the retail energy sector.

For SouthStar Energy Services, MethaneScout™ quantifies methane and other emissions from the point of extraction through processing and transportation until the fuel reaches the end consumer. The supply chain emission tracking functions by aggregating information from various sources and applying a standardized protocol to assess the reliability of that data based on factors such as its timeliness, specific geographic origin, and the verification methods used. The objective is to move beyond generalized emissions estimates to a more granular, data-supported understanding of the carbon footprint associated with specific gas supplies.
