Sanjay Puri Architects has unveiled The Primus — a nine-level commercial office building in Jaipur, India, that reimagines the traditional workspace through a climate-responsive and biophilic lens. This project figures as a direct answer to the challenges of developing in a dense urban environment adjacent to an airport, where a strict 30-metre height restriction and a limited site area of just over 1,700 square metres could have easily resulted in a conventional, sealed box. Instead, the architects have composed The Primus structure from a series of vertically stacked, capsule-shaped modules. This serves to create a distinct visual identity that is as functional as it is striking. The design prioritizes flexibility for tenants, as each floor can accommodate up to eight separate offices ranging from 60 to 125 square metres, with a structural system that allows for easy combination of units to suit larger corporate needs. However, the core of the project’s appeal lies in its integrated environmental strategy, which directly tackles Jaipur’s extreme climate, where temperatures soar above 40 degrees Celsius for nearly eight months of the year.
