Emerald Packaging, a primary manufacturer of flexible plastic packaging for fresh produce, has recently announced its participation as a member organization within the U.S. Flexible Film Initiative (USFFI), an industry coalition focused on developing practical recycling solutions for flexible plastic materials.

Emerald Packaging's affiliation with this entity represents a notable commitment from the packaging producer as it signals a proactive step by a major industry player to tackle the persistent and visible problem of plastic waste, specifically the non-recyclable flexible plastics that frequently end up in landfills or as pollution. The goal of this coalition is to directly support and fund infrastructure aimed at improving the economic feasibility and scalability of recycling systems for items like bags, wraps, and pouches.

Initial efforts of the U.S. Flexible Film Initiative will be concentrated in California to align with forthcoming regulatory requirements for packaging sustainability.
