Vertically Farmed Salads
M&S Launched Grows Quality Leafy Greens with Advanced Robotics
Laura McQuarrie — June 5, 2026M&S launched three vertically farmed salads in stores—Citrus Sorrel Baby Leaves, Spicy Baby Leaves and Baby Garlic Kale—that are grown with advanced robotics and require up to 96% less water than traditionally grown salad crops. With water and nutrients delivered precisely and directly to the roots of these plants, 97% less fertilizer is needed and pesticides are wholly eliminated. What's more, the leaves are harvested at their peak and packaged within 60 seconds to remain fresher for up to five days longer than an average bag of salad.
These three exclusive salad varieties can only be found in M&S Food stores, and they feed into a larger Plan A for Farming initiative, centered on working with growers to enhance soil health, boost biodiversity, and invest in innovative food production processes.
