Mediterranean-Based Textile Projects
OPEN-Fashion Aims to Enhance Vocational Education
Debra John — February 28, 2026Vocational education modernization is at the core of OPEN-Fashion, a Mediterranean-based initiative designed to embed sustainability into the fashion and textile sectors of Morocco and Tunisia. The project advances a dual transition that integrates environmentally responsible production methods alongside digital innovation within vocational education and training (VET) systems.
OPEN-Fashion promotes circular economy principles, resource efficiency, and reduced material waste by incorporating sustainable design practices and technologies such as 3D prototyping into curricula. These tools enable more precise sampling processes, lowering excess fabric use and minimizing environmental impact. The initiative also supports the adoption of sustainable sourcing strategies and responsible manufacturing standards aligned with evolving global expectations.
Coordinated by the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Barcelona and implemented through a cross-Mediterranean consortium, the project emphasizes educator capacity building and the certification of green skills through micro-credentials.
