Aluminum Fuel Energy Systems

Voya Energy Has Raised $35 Million for Its Emission-Free Power

Voya Energy unveiled its new proprietary aluminum fuel and a purpose-built electrochemical generator that produces electricity without combustion or point-of-use air emissions, along with a $35 million Series A led by Energy Impact Partners, with participation from John Doerr and Founders Fund. The funding will support technology development, initial deployments in 2027 and manufacturing scaling in 2028.

The system converts low-grade scrap aluminum directly into electricity through a low-temperature electrochemical process, targeting data centers and industrial operators constrained by grid access or fuel logistics.

As AI-driven electricity demand strains existing grid infrastructure, Voya's approach signals how converting abundant scrap materials into on-demand, emission-free power could offer large energy users a genuinely compact alternative to traditional backup generation.
