Nebius and Bloom Used Oxide Fuel Cell to Power Their AI Infrastructure
Adam Harrie — May 22, 2026Nebius and Bloom Energy announced a partnership to deploy Bloom’s solid oxide fuel cell systems as behind-the-meter power for Nebius’s AI cloud infrastructure, with a first 328MW project expected to become operational this year. The fuel cell AI data center power setup generates electricity without combustion, producing minimal emissions and virtually no water use while avoiding the permitting burden and long timelines associated with combustion-based generation and new grid transmission buildout.
The modular systems can be sited and commissioned faster than conventional power infrastructure, directly addressing the time-to-power constraint that has become a major bottleneck for AI infrastructure expansion.
Nebius and Bloom show how deploying clean, on-site fuel-cell power can accelerate AI infrastructure buildout while reducing both environmental impact and dependence on strained transmission networks.
