Ocean Wave AI Platforms
Panthalassa Raised $140M for Its Ocean-3 Wave-Powered AI Computing
Adam Harrie — May 8, 2026Panthalassa raised $140 million in Series B funding, led by Peter Thiel, to manufacture and deploy its 'Ocean-3' autonomous floating nodes, which generate electricity from ocean waves and run AI inference at sea. The platform transmits results to land via satellite while using the surrounding ocean for passive cooling, eliminating two of the biggest cost drivers in land-based data centers.
The Ocean-3 pilot is set for the northern Pacific in 2026, ahead of commercial deployments in 2027. Each node is manufactured from plate steel at coastal factories and operates autonomously in open-ocean wave regions around the clock without requiring shore connections.
Panthalassa shows how moving AI computing offshore could unlock a new category of clean, scalable infrastructure without requiring land or grid capacity.
