Large-Scale Windfarm Programs

The Wild Rose 2 Wind Farm Has Started Operations in Alberta, Canada

Wild Rose 2 is a 192 megawatt wind farm located in Cypress County, Alberta, and represents Capstone Infrastructure Corporation’s largest renewable energy project to date. Operated by subsidiary Wild Rose 2 Wind Inc., the facility officially commenced operations in September 2025, boosting Capstone’s total renewable capacity to over one gigawatt. The project leverages southeastern Alberta’s strong wind resources to generate enough electricity annually to power nearly 80,000 homes while avoiding approximately 250,000 metric tons of CO₂-equivalent emissions each year. During its construction phase, Wild Rose 2 supported regional employment by creating around 475 jobs.

Long-term power purchase agreements underpin the project’s financial stability and community impact. Pembina Pipeline Corporation has committed to offtake for 105 megawatts under a 15-year agreement, while the City of Edmonton secured 78 megawatts through a Renewable Attribute Purchase Agreement spanning more than 20 years, the largest such commitment by a Canadian municipality. The Government of Canada, via Natural Resources Canada’s Smart Electrification and Renewable Energy Pathways Program, provided financial support. Industry and government leaders, including Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Tim Hodgson, have cited Wild Rose 2 as a model for public-private partnerships driving Canada’s transition to a sustainable energy future.
