The VSB Group has connected the 'Repowering Wind Farm Elster' to the electricity grid, marking a major step forward for clean energy in Europe. With a capacity of 105.6 megawatts, it is one of the largest projects of its kind. By replacing older turbines with modern, more powerful models, the site now produces six times more electricity than before—enough to supply renewable power to many thousands of homes.

This upgrade also means "the wind farm is nearly 600 percent more efficient, making much better use of the same land." Additionally, repowering reduces the need for new construction, limits environmental disruption, and helps cut greenhouse gas emissions.

The Elster project shows how upgrading existing wind farms can quickly boost green energy production. In countries like Germany and France, where many older turbines are still running, this approach can play a key role in meeting climate goals and building a cleaner energy future.
