VIVOTEK Utilizes AI to Monitor the Zhonggua River in Taiwan
Debra John — June 4, 2026The Zhonggua River in Nantou County, Taiwan, has become a notable example of ecological restoration and biodiversity recovery following efforts to reverse the environmental impacts of past river engineering projects.
Restoration initiatives led by Taiwan's Agency of Rural Development and Soil and Water Conservation and National Chung Hsing University removed concrete barriers, restored natural riverbanks, and reconnected the river with its surrounding ecosystem. These measures helped revive native habitats, support species diversity, and enhance natural processes such as flood regulation, groundwater recharge, and habitat regeneration.
Recognized through Taiwan's first OECM certification program, the restored river now serves as a site for conservation, environmental education, and community engagement. Moreover, to support long-term ecosystem management, VIVOTEK, National Chung Hsing University, and DATAYOO deployed an AI-powered monitoring system that enables continuous, non-intrusive observation of wildlife and environmental conditions, supporting data-driven conservation efforts.
