Canadian-Based Sustainability Summits
The 2026 IMPACT Conference Featured a Wildlife Viewing Tour
Debra John — January 31, 2026The 2026 IMPACT Conference, a Canadian-based sustainability summit, emphasized environmentally responsible tourism through education, collaboration, and immersive experiences. Over four days, the conference featured keynote sessions, workshops, and panel discussions focused on developing tourism models that support conservation, community well-being, and long-term environmental stewardship.
The event opened with a dedicated Day of Impact, highlighted by a guided wildlife-viewing tour led by members of the Songhees Nation. This experience connected participants with local ecosystems while sharing Indigenous knowledge that emphasizes respect for land, wildlife, and sustainable resource use. The program underscored the importance of culturally informed conservation practices in tourism development.
Participants also visited Violet Grove Farms, an agro-tourism business demonstrating sustainable land management and local food production. The day concluded at the Brentwood Bay Resort with presentations and meals featuring regional growers and producers. Together, these activities reinforced the role of tourism in supporting biodiversity, reducing environmental impact, and strengthening local, sustainable economies.
