At the 43rd ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM) in Kuala Lumpur, the Philippines’ Department of Energy delegation advanced a sustainable energy agenda focused on aligning national priorities with the new ASEAN Plan of Action on Energy Cooperation (APAEC 2026–2030), emphasising expanded energy access, job creation, innovation, and resilience, and noting interest in integrating renewables such as offshore wind and strengthening ASEAN Power Grid interconnections. Discussions between DOE Undersecretary Felix William B. Fuentebella and ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) leadership included proposals to introduce metrics for social affordability, environmental sustainability, and economic reliability to guide regional policy decisions.

ACE signalled support for the Philippines’ forthcoming chairship of key ASEAN energy meetings and invited the country to participate in the ceremonial handover of the ASEAN Energy Business Forum hosting responsibilities, framing the engagement as a step toward deeper regional coordination on energy security and decarbonisation pathways. ACE also announced plans for a preparatory visit to the Philippines to begin drafting the country’s annual energy priorities, indicating continued collaboration to implement APAEC goals and pursue cross‑border interconnection and market integration initiatives.
