The American Water Charitable Foundation, in collaboration with Missouri American Water, has opened applications for hydration station grants available to eligible 501(c)(3) organizations and K–12 public schools within its service areas. The initiative is primarily focused on environmental sustainability, addressing the significant impact of single-use plastic waste.

In the United States, more than 60 million plastic water bottles are discarded daily, contributing to landfill accumulation, pollution, and potential contamination of water sources. By funding bottle-filling stations and drinking fountains, the program encourages the use of reusable containers and reduces reliance on disposable plastics. These installations support long-term waste reduction while promoting responsible water consumption in public spaces.

Although recipients are responsible for installation and maintenance, the grants enable broader adoption of sustainable hydration infrastructure. Overall, the initiative reflects a commitment to reducing plastic pollution, protecting natural water systems, and supporting resilient, community-level environmental practices.
