Anthro Energy broke ground on an electrolyte factory in Louisville, Kentucky, capable of producing 25 gigawatt-hours of battery electrolytes annually, enough for more than 300,000 electric vehicles. The facility, scheduled to begin production in 2028, aims to fill a critical domestic supply chain gap for U.S. battery manufacturers seeking materials free from Foreign Entity of Concern restrictions tied to Chinese suppliers.

The project received $24.9 million from the Department of Energy under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, plus $18.4 million in Inflation Reduction Act tax credits and $2.3 million in Kentucky state incentives tied to 110 permanent jobs.

As solid-state battery technology remains stalled by manufacturing-scale challenges, this factory signals how federal funding could help bridge the gap between promising battery chemistry and commercially viable production in the U.S.
