BJMP Gasan District Jail has launched an innovative livelihood program enabling Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) to transform discarded coconut shells into practical kitchen utensils. The initiative allows inmates to learn sustainable craftsmanship by turning local, natural materials into useful, eco-friendly products.

The program provides inmates with a creative and productive outlet, helping them develop skills that can support income generation upon release. At the same time, it emphasizes environmental responsibility by repurposing indigenous materials that would otherwise go to waste.

BJMP officials note that the project is part of broader rehabilitation efforts designed to equip inmates with practical skills, foster personal growth, and prepare them for successful reintegration into society.

“We hope the public will support even these simple products made by our PDL. Despite the limitations of a small jail facility, they continue to show genuine effort to reform and to create items that are useful and meaningful. Every purchase is not just support for a product, but encouragement for their commitment to change,” said BJMP Mimaropa spokesperson JO3 Joefrie Anglo.
