SM Hotels and Conventions Corporation (SMHCC) is strengthening its circular sustainability framework through its 'Plate for the Planet' initiative, recognized as the '2025 World’s Leading Sustainable Circular Economy' at the World Sustainable Travel & Hospitality Awards. The program operates under its 'Sustainable Diner Program,' which prioritizes locally sourced and hotel-grown ingredients to reduce food miles and support regional agriculture.

A core component of the initiative is responsible food waste management. Organic waste from hotel kitchens is processed through composting systems enhanced with beneficial bacteria and through biodigesters installed across properties. The resulting compost is used to fertilize hotel gardens and partner farms, creating a closed-loop system in which harvested produce is reintegrated into hotel menus.

Through partnerships with farmers under the SM Foundation’s 'Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan' program, SMHCC reinforces community-based agriculture while reducing waste, conserving resources, and promoting regenerative hospitality practices across its properties.
