Fusion Power Funding Rounds
Commonwealth Fusion Has Raised $1 Billion to Scale Toward Sparc
Adam Harrie — August 1, 2026Commonwealth Fusion Systems raised $1 billion in new funding from institutional investors, including pension funds, sovereign wealth funds and industrial partners, bringing its total capital raised to $4 billion and extending its lead as the world's best-funded fusion startup. The round will support commercialization efforts as CFS builds SPARC, its demonstration reactor, and finalizes the design of ARC, its planned commercial power plant in Virginia.
CFS is pursuing magnetic confinement fusion, using powerful magnetic fields to compress and heat plasma until fusion reactions release energy that can ultimately generate electricity through a steam turbine. SPARC is expected to achieve scientific breakeven in 2027, a milestone reached by only one fusion device to date.
ARC has already secured major offtake commitments, including a $1 billion electricity purchase agreement with Eni and a 200 MW commitment from Google, showing growing commercial demand for future fusion power.
