Starlight Engine Has Raised $37.4M to Advance Fusion Power Efforts

Starlight Engine completed its first external funding round, raising JPY 6.06 billion ($37.4 million) in financing led by Global Brain Corporation, with participation from 17 new investors spanning the power, construction, telecommunications and financial sectors. The funding will accelerate the company's fusion power 'FAST' project, a privately led initiative targeting fusion power generation in the 2030s.
The capital will support engineering design, site selection, regulatory compliance, supply chain development and plans to expand Starlight Engine's workforce to approximately 200 employees over the next two years. The FAST project brings together leading fusion researchers and private-sector partners including Hitachi, Mitsubishi Corporation and Kyoto Fusioneering, alongside collaborations with the University of Tokyo and Kyoto University.
Starlight Engine shows how private-sector investment is helping advance fusion energy by bringing together industrial expertise, academic research and long-term capital to accelerate commercialization.
