Energy Access Investment Funds
Lightrock Launched Accelerate7 Its $500M Energy Access Fund
Adam Harrie — May 16, 2026Lightrock launched Accelerate7, a $500 million fund backed by Equinor, Shell, TotalEnergies and LGT to invest in growth-stage companies expanding energy access across Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia and Southeast Asia. The clean energy access fund for the Global South targets electricity access, clean cooking and enabling technologies such as electric mobility and energy storage, with typical investment sizes ranging from $10 million to $50 million.
The portfolio already includes four companies, including off-grid solar provider Sun King and IoT-enabled clean cookstove maker ATEC Global. More than 660 million people globally still lack electricity, while 2.1 billion depend on polluting cooking fuels.
Lightrock shows that backing proven growth-stage operators in energy access markets can deliver strong commercial returns while addressing urgent infrastructure gaps.
