Synthetic Fuel Startups

Rivan Raised £25M From IQ Capital to Scale Its Synthetic Fuel Production

Rivan secured £25 million from IQ Capital and Plural to scale up synthetic fuel manufacturing in Europe, targeting heavy industries where electrification simply isn't a viable option at national scale. The London-based startup combines renewable energy, captured CO₂ and hydrogen to produce synthetic natural gas through a fully integrated production process that it designs and builds in-house.

The startup has already secured customer contracts covering its fully planned output through 2029 and is commissioning a new plant in Wiltshire that will be the first to feed synthetic gas directly into the UK national grid.

As governments across Europe seek energy solutions that go beyond importing fossil fuels, Rivan shows that building a domestic synthetic fuel supply chain from scratch could provide energy-intensive industries with a locally produced, cost-efficient pathway away from fossil-fuel dependence.
