Hydrogen Fuel Station Initiatives

Scale Green Energy Received Funding to Deploy Hydrogen Stations
Colin Smith — July 19, 2025Scale Green Energy, a subsidiary of Enagás, has been awarded €8 million in grant funding from the European Commission’s Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) for Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facilities. The grant covers 100 percent of the requested amount for the ECOhynet project, which aims to deploy six renewable hydrogen refuelling stations across Spain. With a total joint investment exceeding €26.7 million, the project aligns with the EU’s objectives to enhance zero-emission mobility infrastructure along the Trans-European Transport Network’s Atlantic and Mediterranean corridors.
Each of the six stations will offer daily dispensing capacities of 1,000 kg of hydrogen at both 350 bar and 700 bar, catering to light-duty and heavy-duty vehicles. By supplying hydrogen produced entirely from renewable sources, the network will support cross-platform mobility solutions and bolster Spain’s transition toward low-carbon transport. The infrastructure rollout is expected to strengthen regional energy security, encourage public-private collaboration across the hydrogen value chain, and advance the EU’s broader climate and transport decarbonization goals.
