Mars Sustainable Solutions, the environmental restoration arm of Mars, Incorporated, has reported on a coral disease outbreak that affected multiple reefs in Indonesia's Spermonde Archipelago, including the well-known HOPE Reef, in March 2026. The company deployed an urgent response team to implement containment, monitoring, research, and resilience-informed recovery strategies, with early observations indicating that the physical reef structure remains largely intact and fish communities are broadly present, which may support natural recovery.

Mars Sustainable Solutions is developing a multi-faceted action plan to tackle the coral disease outbreak, which includes ongoing monitoring across affected sites, a clear roadmap with measurable milestones for restoration, and collaborations with third-party scientific researchers and institutions to better understand the disease and its impacts. The company will also offer regular public updates at six-month and one-year intervals.
