Electric Taxiing Aircraft Mechanisms
Green Taxi Aerospace and Delta Air Lines Have Partnered
Kalin Ned — October 22, 2025A strategic alliance has been formed between Green Taxi Aerospace and Delta Air Lines to advance the development of an electric taxiing mechanism for commercial aircraft. This technology is engineered to allow planes to move on the ground without relying on their primary jet engines. Instead, they will utilize an integrated electric drive system.
Through this novel electric taxiing mechanism, Green Taxi Aerospace and Delta Air Lines aim to diminish the consumption of conventional jet fuel, lower associated operational expenditures, decrease the time spent taxiing, and reduce the carbon footprint of airport ground operations. Delta's sustainability research division will provide operational expertise to assist in refining the system. Initially, the collaborators will target regional aircraft, though the underlying ambition is for broader industry-wide application.
