EU Green Bond Issuances
Royal Philips successfully priced a €650 million offering of fixed-rate notes due 2034, marking the healthcare industry's first bond issued under the new European Green Bond Standard. The notes were oversubscribed 2.7 times, priced at 99.655% with a 4.0% coupon and yielding 4.055%.
Proceeds from the issuance will finance taxonomy-aligned economic activities supporting Philips' 2030 Impact Ambition. Settlement is scheduled for August 28, 2026, and the notes are set to list on the Luxembourg Stock Exchange. The issuance is not expected to increase net debt, though gross debt will temporarily rise until the company's 2027 bond matures.
Philips' issuance signals that the new EU Green Bond Standard is beginning to shape how major corporations structure debt specifically tied to verified environmental impact, setting a benchmark other healthcare companies may follow.
