Green Hydrogen Finance Funds

SA-H2 Fund Closed With $182 Million to Scale Its Green Hydrogen Fund

Climate Fund Managers announced the first close of the SA-H2 green hydrogen fund, securing ZAR 3.0 billion (about $182 million) in commitments to invest across the entire green hydrogen value chain. This includes production, downstream derivatives such as green ammonia and methanol, and efforts to decarbonize hard-to-abate industries. The blended finance platform combines a Development Tranche that provides early-stage risk capital with Equity Tranches that support projects from financial close through construction.

The fund targets sectors including steel, fertilizer, e-fuels and chemicals, where direct electrification remains difficult.

As green hydrogen advances from pilot programs to larger-scale investments, SA-H2's initial closing indicates growing institutional confidence in blended finance models that combine public risk capital with private funding to support large-scale energy transition infrastructure.
