FinDev Canada Got $2.7 Billion to Back Its Emerging Markets
Adam Harrie — June 3, 2026FinDev Canada received a historic capitalization of CAD 2.73 billion, including $2 billion in paid-in capital and $732 million in concessional funding, to advance climate finance across emerging markets in Africa, Asia-Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean. The commitment, announced following Canada's Spring Economic Update, is scheduled to begin in 2027.
Priority sectors include renewable energy generation, energy storage and grid infrastructure, sustainable transportation, water systems, climate-smart agriculture and transition finance structures. FinDev Canada is focused on mobilizing private capital alongside its own investments, providing institutional investors and banks with broader access to emerging-market opportunities in clean energy and climate resilience.
Canada shows how development finance institutions can help bridge investment gaps by channeling public capital into markets where private funding for clean infrastructure has historically been limited.
