BII & CIP Launched Its North Star to Fund India Renewable Energy
Adam Harrie — May 19, 2026British International Investment and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners launched North Star, a $300 million platform designed to provide India’s renewable energy developers with the capital and execution capacity needed to build projects. BII is investing $150 million, with CIP matching it through its Growth Markets Fund II.
The India renewable energy investment platform targets solar, wind, hybrid and storage projects that together are expected to generate more than 4 million MWh of clean electricity and reduce emissions by about 4 million tonnes annually. India aims to more than triple its renewable energy capacity by 2030 but faces a $160 billion annual funding gap to get there.
BII and CIP show how blending development capital with institutional private investment on a dedicated platform can help get projects moving.
