Druk Green Power Corporation Limited (DGPC) and Kolkata based Carbon Resources Private Limited (CRPL) have signed a memorandum of understanding to evaluate and develop renewable energy projects in Bhutan with capacities ranging from 100 MW to 250 MW. The collaboration targets both hydropower and solar developments and is structured to form one or more special purpose vehicles incorporated in Bhutan as joint ventures between DGPC and CRPL. The announcement frames the partnership as a means to leverage DGPC’s domestic generation expertise and CRPL’s experience in sustainable investments and carbon products.

The proposed financing model indicates a 70:30 debt to equity structure for project development, reflecting an intent to attract commercial lenders and private capital. Planned activities include site assessment, feasibility studies, permitting, and securing grid interconnection and offtake arrangements. The partnership is presented as supporting Bhutan’s renewable capacity expansion and private sector participation, while further project advancement will depend on regulatory approvals, detailed technical studies, and finalisation of financing and contractual terms.
