The European Investment Fund committed €200 million to Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners’ Advanced Bioenergy Fund II, a fund targeting €1.5 billion to support greenfield biogas plants across Denmark, Ireland, Spain, Belgium and Finland. The European biomethane biogas infrastructure fund converts manure and agricultural waste into biomethane through anaerobic digestion, producing a renewable gas compatible with existing pipeline infrastructure that can help decarbonize industry and maritime transport.

The EIF commitment is backed by the EU’s InvestEU and REPowerEU initiatives, targeting markets with stable, long-term regulatory frameworks that support bioenergy growth.

As Europe works to reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels, CIP and the EIF show how directing institutional capital into domestic biomethane production can strengthen energy security while turning agricultural waste into a scalable source of clean gas.
