Renewable Gas Acquisitions

Schroders Greencoat Has Acquired APF Energy to Expand Into Biomethane

Schroders Greencoat acquired APF Energy, a Netherlands-based platform with six biomethane assets, three operating and three under construction, that converts agricultural manure and food by-products into renewable gas fed directly into existing pipeline infrastructure. The agricultural biomethane renewable gas platform also reduces nitrate pressure from Dutch livestock farming, transforming a regional agricultural challenge into a clean energy feedstock.

Because biomethane is chemically identical to fossil natural gas, it can decarbonize road transport and heavy industry without requiring new distribution networks.

As Europe’s hard-to-abate sectors seek to decarbonize without replacing existing infrastructure, Schroders Greencoat shows how acquiring an established biomethane platform in a market with abundant agricultural feedstock and mature gas networks can deliver both transition impact and commercial returns.
