Bloomberg Philanthropies announced a $285 million commitment to strengthen clean energy industries across emerging and developing economies, focusing on countries responsible for nearly 70% of global power-sector emissions. The investment aims to help solar and wind generate more than half of electricity in these markets by 2030 by building institutional capacity, technical expertise and market influence for renewable energy industry associations.

The commitment comes as renewables reached 34% of global electricity generation in 2025, overtaking coal for the first time in roughly a century. Funding will support data and economic research, technical assistance for regulators and partnerships with financial institutions to help unlock private capital for clean energy infrastructure.

The initiative shows how strengthening industry institutions and market capacity is becoming increasingly important to accelerating renewable energy deployment at scale.
